I am looking to have an 18 seer Rheem installed in my house. I had a 16 seer rheem at my previous house. Anyways I hear the 18 seer requires a special thermostat for controlling and monitoring the system.
Can I use my own thermostat in conjunction with the rheem thermostat to do the basic stuff like setting the temperature? I want to use a Proliphix internet enabled thermostat to be able to control my CAC from the outside and from the web. I hear it is possible to set the Rheem in 'legacy mode' to use a regaular 24v thermostat? Would I be using both? The rheem for say monitoring the system and the 24v thermostat for setting the temperature, scheduling, etc. Thanks in advance. I would be using the 18 seer air handler and 18 seer compressor.
5 ton system. Why do you want remote internet control? Seems a little overkill for a home system. Unless it's a rental and you want to mess with your tenants! I am out frequently and I want to be able to turn my CAC system on when I know I am coming home. I am not the type of person that likes to leave my system on when I am not around. Also with the Proliphix thermostat I do like to monitor and trend usage patterns over time.
